Urn with Albany Slip Glaze

This urn is covered with Albany Slip glaze. This glaze mimics the original Albany Slip clay that used to be found under Albany, NY. As Albany got built up, the access to this clay was no longer accessible.

Albany Slip clay didn't need a glaze - it fired to a lovely sheen on its own. Think of the old bean pots - many of them were Albany Slip. This color doesn't fire as dark as those, but is lovely on its own. It's one of my favorite glazes.
